FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Senate Adopts Two Waugh ResolutionsHARRISBURG – Today the state Senate adopted two separate resolutions sponsored by Senator Mike Waugh (R-28) declaring July 2008 as "Take a Swing Against Breast Cancer" month and congratulating the York County Economic Development Corporation (YCEDC) on its 50th anniversary. Senate Resolution 346, with more nearly 40 co-sponsors, recognizes the coordinated efforts of the Pennsylvania Association of Community Bankers and the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition to "Take a Swing Against Breast Cancer" during the month of July 2008. Together they have organized a series of homerun derbies to be held at minor league ballparks throughout Pennsylvania in an effort to raise money for the fight against breast cancer and to raise awareness of the disease that currently affects 103,000 Pennsylvania women. "These derbies will be a great way to honor one of America's favorite pastimes while raising awareness of breast cancer," said Waugh. "And I am proud to announce that the first homerun derby will be held at Sovereign Bank Stadium, home of the York Revolution." Waugh's second resolution, which was introduced on the Senate floor today with the co-sponsorship of York County Senators Gib Armstrong, Jeff Piccola, Terry Punt, and Pat Vance, congratulates the York County Economic Development Corporation (YCEDC) on a very successful 50 years of service to York County. Established in 1958, YCEDC was initially known as the York County Industrial Development Corporation until 1999 when the name was changed to reflect its broader mission to serve as York County's leading resource for facilitating economic development. "YCEDC is truly an asset to York County and even the surrounding communities that benefit from the partnerships and collaborative efforts YCEDC have facilitated over the years," said Waugh. "It is hard to believe they have been around for 50 years, but they have certainly accomplished a lot in that time." Since its inception, YCEDC has facilitated funding in excess of $73 million toward an estimated 150 economic development projects, creating and retaining more than 10,200 jobs throughout York County.
