FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Senator Waugh Honors Hanover-Bred Horse at Press ConferenceHARRISBURG – State Sen. Mike Waugh (R-York) joined Rep. Peter Daley (D- Washington/Fayette) at a press conference this afternoon in the Main Rotunda of the Capitol to honor Windsong's Legacy, a 3-year-old colt born and bred at Windsong Stable, in Hanover, PA, by the Spears Family. The young horse will be attempting to win the Trotting Triple Crown this Saturday at the Kentucky Futurity. In recognition of Windsong's Legacy's wins in August at both the 79th Hambletonian at the Meadowlands and the Yonkers Trot, Sen. Waugh presented a Senate Resolution to Windsong's Legacy's breeders and owners, as they prepare for Saturday's race. The Resolution designates Saturday, October 9, 2004, the day of the Kentucky Futurity, as Windsong's Legacy Day. Not since 1972, when a colt by the name of Super Bowl succeeded, has a horse won the Trotting Triple Crown. However, even without a Triple Crown, everyone today recognized that Windsong's Legacy has already succeeded in staking his claim as one of the greatest standard-bred horses of all time. As the Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee Chairman, Sen. Waugh also recognized the great benefit Windsong's Legacy and the horse racing industry in general has had on Pennsylvania's agriculture industry and the economy. "The equine industry is a major component of this State's agriculture industry, employing more than 20,000 Pennsylvanians and generating millions of dollars in revenue and taxes," said Waugh. "And Windsong's Legacy and his accomplishments have proven and demonstrated the worth and value of Pennsylvania's equine industry to people all over the world."
