FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Senate Ag Committee Meets, Passes Three Pieces of LegislationWaugh Resolution Designates Farm Bureau Day in PAHARRISBURG – Sen. Mike Waugh (R-York), Chairman, convened a meeting today of the Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, during which they reported one resolution and two bills. Waugh's Senate Resolution 206, which calls for the designation of April 13, 2004, as "Pennsylvania Farm Bureau Day," was unanimously supported by the Committee and now heads to the full Senate for consideration and adoption. Other bills before the committee included Sen. Noah Wenger's SB 871. This bill, as amended in Committee, codifies the Humane Society Police Officers Act establishing a Board in the Department of Agriculture for the purpose of administering and regulating the appointment of humane society police officers in the Commonwealth. Finally, HB 1809, sponsored by Rep. Allan Egolf, was also amended and reported from Committee and would require the Dept. of Agriculture to create a training and certification program for commercial manure haulers and brokers and establish requirements for agricultural operations utilizing these services. Both SB 871 and HB 1809 now move to the Senate for full consideration or reassignment to another Committee. |
