FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Waugh Announces Informational Forum On Environmental Education ProgramsYORK – Senator Mike Waugh (R-York County) will hold an informational forum on Tuesday, October 7, from 4:00pm-5:30pm at the Goodwill Fire Co. in Jacobus, to present educators and other interested parties with environmental education program opportunities for students of Pennsylvania. The Chesapeake Bay Commission (CBC) and Foundation, the Agriculture Awareness Foundation, and the York County Conservation District will all present information on the programs each offers. "As a member of the Chesapeake Bay Commission and as Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee, I have been made aware of a number of programs that could be a benefit to educators and their students," said Waugh. "I want our local schools to also be aware of the opportunities that can enhance their science and environmental studies curricula. " The CBC is making grants available to provide students and teachers alike with opportunities to directly participate in local restoration and protection projects for the Bay and local watersheds, as well as support stewardship in schools and on school property. Tom Beauduy, representing the CBC, and members from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation will provide information on the scope of the programs available and details on how to apply for the grants – the application deadline for the spring programs is this November. In addition, Pat Sueck from the Agriculture Awareness Foundation will speak on the Ag in the Classroom Program and Susan Dubbs, Education/Communications Coordinator for the York County Conservation District will share information on other environmental education programs. Principals and science and environmental teachers have been formally invited, but Waugh invites anyone interested in such programs to please feel free to attend. Prior notice is appreciated but not required. Those wishing to attend can call the district office at (717) 846-2828.
