FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Firefighter Grant Workshop to be Held in YorkHARRISBURG – Edward Mann, Pennsylvania’s Fire Commissioner, will hold a free workshop on Wednesday, February 12, to help area firefighters apply for federal fire grants, according to state Sen. Mike Waugh (R-28). The workshop will be held at the York County Fire Training School at 330 Emig Road, Emigsville, from 7-10 p.m. Recipients from the 2001 and 2002 programs, as well as applicants that have never received a grant are invited to attend. “As a former assistant fire chief and the current co-chairman of the Senate Firefighters and Emergency Services Caucus, I am well aware of how necessary these federal grants are to our local fire companies. This workshop should help to ensure that all the necessary steps are properly taken so each company will have a fair chance at the grants,” said Waugh. The Senator also said the topics to be covered in the workshop include how to complete the application and file it online and how to provide essential information for the applications. The workshop will also give area firefighters the opportunity to ask questions and voice their concerns. Fire organizations can apply for grants in four categories: Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety, Fire Prevention, Emergency Medical Services, and Firefighting Vehicles. Sen. Waugh said that the workshop is one of seven currently being held statewide through February 13. The Office of the State Fire Commissioner, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the U. S. Fire Administration are all sponsoring the workshops. Those interested in more information regarding next Wednesday’s workshop can contact Paul Schaefer at the Fire Training School at (717) 767-4097. |
