FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Senator Waugh Reappointed to Chesapeake Bay CommissionHARRISBURG, Pa-State Senator Mike Waugh (R-28) will be continuing his efforts to help preserve the Chesapeake Bay through his recent reappointment by Senate President Pro Tempore Robert Jubelirer to continue serving as a member of the Chesapeake Bay Commission. Waugh returned to the Commission by appointment last January after the retirement of Senator Richard Tilghman but had also served during his time in the House of Representatives, prior to being elected to the Pennsylvania Senate. “I am pleased that I have the opportunity to continue serving on the Commission. PA plays such a vital role in meeting the goals of the Chesapeake Bay Program, which in turn benefits the economic, environmental, and recreational interests of the entire Commonwealth,” said Waugh. The Commission is the legislative arm of the Chesapeake Bay Program and therefore, works cooperatively with the Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia legislatures to help manage and protect the bay and its watershed. Waugh also stated, “The Chesapeake Bay is such an important asset to the Commonwealth and our neighboring states. Helping to preserve that resource is very gratifying.” The Commission was formed in 1980; Pennsylvania joined in 1985. Part of the Chesapeake Bay Commission’s ultimate goal is to clean up pollution, restore habitats and protect fish and wildlife. |
